21st lit analysis
The story by safe house by Sandra Nicole Roldan is a story about a place where someone hides or stays protected from police. In those days the President of the Philippine was Ferdinand Marcos, there were lots of abusing of human rights and lots of Filipinos died which lead to having a rebellion. Basically, the story is in the little girls point of perspective, where her dad is against the president’s laws and is fighting for the rights. Her father tries to keep his family safe, and freely. In the year 1982 there were visitors who came a bit often, and were introduced as aunts and uncles. During the night they used to make plans and talk about the situation, they also used to watch news on the television. The next year which was the 1983 the visitors came often to the house and had meetings. Her mother becomes tired and sad because of the taxes and money problem, but the girl doesn’t understand because she is too young to understand all these things.
