The story by safe house by Sandra Nicole Roldan is a story about a place where someone hides or stays protected from police. In those days the President of the Philippine was Ferdinand Marcos, there were lots of abusing of human rights and lots of Filipinos died which lead to having a rebellion. Basically, the story is in the little girls point of perspective, where her dad is against the president’s laws and is fighting for the rights. Her father tries to keep his family safe, and freely. In the year 1982 there were visitors who came a bit often, and were introduced as aunts and uncles. During the night they used to make plans and talk about the situation, they also used to watch news on the television. The next year which was the 1983 the visitors came often to the house and had meetings. Her mother becomes tired and sad because of the taxes and money problem, but the girl doesn’t understand because she is too young to understand all these things. Soon the mother leaves the house and doesn’t comes back one day the girl goes back to her house and sees her house becoming small as there are a lot of things that belongs to her (and her things kept growing) she is also not well educated as when the girl saw a triangle book which said the word class she imagines some other meaning instead of the real meaning which shows that she is not well educated. During the 1984 they pretend to have birthday parties with the people so called the aunts and uncles. But later her father gets arrested by the soldiers so the with her brother were send to her grandparents’ house. Her father was sent to the camp crane where he was detained. She stayed with her father during the weekends. She had nightmares of losing her home, which is a lot for kids to go through. So at the end, as she knows better about these things, so instead of helping she closes the door and keeps herself safe and not repeating the history that she went through. Now she dedicates herself to keep her house safe.
I think the reason why she wants to keep her in safehouse is that i think she still has a trauma for what happened to her in the past where as nowdays its safe and have no problems with human rights the trauma from her past is giving her trust issues and unsecure there is also the reason that she doesn't wants to repeat the history that she has gone through but also its just the surrounding she has grownup to which would make her feel like that. So i think she felt insecure and had trust issues thats why she kept herself safe by not allowing anyone to come in.
